Overview

The first Transylvanian Summer School and International Workshop on Complex Systems and Networks is being organized upon the initiative of our three major sponsors: ONCE-CS, UNESCO and the Center for Complex Network Studies at University of Notre Dame. The local organization is coordinated by the Babeş-Bolyai University, EMTE-Sapientia University, the Hungarian University Institute from Cluj and the Center for Complexity Studies from Bucharest.

The meeting will bring together researchers of various backgrounds dealing with interdisciplinary problems related to complex systems and networks. The workshop will aim to serve as a discussion platform for physicists, mathematicians, computer scientists, biologists, chemists and economists interested in complex interdisciplinary problems, as well as to familiarize a new generation of students with this fascinating research field.

The meeting will focus on the following areas:

The workshop is restricted to 80 participants (18 invited lectures, 22 contributing talks and 40 students).

The meeting will be held at the Teleki Educational Center in Sovata (Szováta), which is a famous and picturesque mountain resort with the largest heliothermic salt-lake in Europe, and located close to one of Europe’s largest underground salt mines (open for the public). The town offers excellent conditions for both relaxation and tourism (see some pictures). During the workshop a trip will be organized to the beautiful volcanic Harghita Mountain and the surrounding "Szekler (Székely)" region. The conference site is located about 100 kms from the beautiful medieval castle in the town of Sighishoara (Segesvár), where Vlad the Impaler, the character behind the Dracula myth, spent his childhood. In about the same distance is the city of Sibiu (Nagyszeben), which was declared European Capital of Culture for 2007.
